 Welcome to Portland!

In Portland, it's easy to find limitless recreation, fabulous food and drink, flourishing culture and the nation's largest variety of local microbrews.

With no sales tax, Portland is a haven for shoppers. Retailers large and small, international and indie are within easy reach of downtown. The nearby Pearl District is home to galleries, boutiques, chic restaurants and the legendary Powell's City of Books.

An award-winning airport, efficient light rail system, pedestrian-friendly city blocks and free train rides in the central city make getting around town a real pleasure.

Two rivers wind through Portland, Oregon: the north-flowing Willamette, running past the city's Waterfront Park and esplanade, and the "mighty" Columbia, the fourth largest river in the US. Portland gets the nickname "Bridgetown" from the twelve bridges crossing these rivers, each an example of a unique architectural style and six that must open for tall sailboats and giant cargo ships.

The Smith Memorial Student Union houses one of the largest ballrooms in Portland. The ballroom boasts beautiful hardwood floors and a large stage.  Windows along one wall open out to a balcony along the building. We will use the ballroom daily for classes and evening dances.

TACSound and TACbooks

Both the music and book stores operated by the T.A.C. will be open with their items available to purchase at Portland State U.  While they can bring some of their stock, in order to avoid disappointment,  it is suggested to pre-order to be sure the items you want are there for you.  Place your orders online, and mark 'pickup' in the delivery option making a note that you wish to pick up the order at Summer School.
